Routine care is the key question
Original Medicare generally lets you use providers nationwide who accept Medicare. Medicare Advantage network and out-of-network rules depend on the specific plan. Check routine visits, specialists, referrals, and extended stays away from home before choosing coverage.
Emergency care is different
Medicare Advantage covers emergency and urgently needed care outside its service area under applicable rules. That does not mean routine out-of-area care has identical coverage. International travel has separate limits; check your plan or supplement before a trip.
A move is different from a visit
If you move outside your plan’s service area, you may have a Special Enrollment Period. Tell the plan and your licensed insurance agent about the address and move date. A plan sold in your former county may not be available in your new one.
Bring both sets of providers
For seasonal living, list your doctors, facilities, pharmacies, and months away in each location. Ask how refills, routine care, and specialist follow-up would work.
