Start with your household, not just your business
If you work for yourself, individual Marketplace coverage may be an option. Tell us who needs insurance and whether anyone has access to coverage through another job. A business with employees may need a different conversation about employee coverage.
Estimate income for the coverage year
Marketplace savings depend on your household and expected income. Self-employed applicants estimate net self-employment income for the year they need coverage. Bring a realistic estimate and update your application when circumstances change.
Make the comparison useful
List the doctors and prescriptions you want to keep. Compare monthly premiums alongside deductibles, copays, and the cost of a year with more care. A low monthly payment alone does not tell you how well a plan fits.
Bring these questions
- Who needs coverage, and does a spouse have an employer plan?
- What is my estimated net business income for this year?
- When can I enroll, and when would coverage start?
